Discover the Inspiring Journey of Aja Wilson in Her Powerful New Book: Dear Black Girls

By Amiya Brandon

You're often taught that the "triple threat" is one of your most critical fundamental positions in hoops. March is the same, hosting National Reading Month, National Women's Month, and March Madness. So, it felt like the perfect time to shine a spotlight on A'ja Wilson. She's not just a double WNBA champ and the heart of the Las Vegas Aces; she's a former Division 1 basketball legend at The University of South Carolina. She is also acclaimed for her dedication, prowess, and fierce commitment. Beyond the court, she's making moves with The A'ja Wilson Foundation, a charity she created to raise awareness and support for families with children battling dyslexia.

Recently, A'ja has branched out into the literary world, authoring her book, "Dear Black Girls." The book addresses girls who've been labeled as "too loud" or "too emotional," those scrutinized for their appearance, and all young black girls seeking relatable stories. Drawing from her life experiences, A'ja weaves her personal journey into the narrative, illustrating how she's triumphed over various hurdles. Her book delves deep into the power of self-belief and the realities of being a black woman today. It shows how the struggles of one black woman can illuminate the path for others. I'm excited to dive into her book, hoping to grasp the author's perspective and apply her wisdom to my life challenges. *AB
