Creating With Everyone
by Mahagony Willis
For six years, Brandon Publishing has provided youth with innovative and engaging workshops designed to empower students through literature development and entrepreneurship. We call it, The Create Program. In four weeks, students learn the skills and processes necessary to create books, magazines, and short films—all workshops focus on using everyday technology for development. Over the years, we’ve truly attempted to figure out how to expand the programing into other districts without having to physically be everywhere—and honestly, there just wasn’t enough weeks in the year to meet the demand for our programming.
As time went on, we continued to enhance, collect data, and improve the efficiency of our programming. Along with this progression, we were able to develop digital curriculum, visual trainings, and behind the scenes examples that will now act as Create Program Packets. These highly intuitive packets provide educators across the country with all the tools needed to execute the Create Program for their students. Even if something fails to go according to plans, BP’s support team will be right there to assist educators with getting things back on track. “I’m so excited to have several schools signed up for our Create Program Packets. We’ve worked very hard to help deliver such a well received program to schools outside of our physical reach. I’ve been pushing for this curriculum and training for educators for quite some time now,” say’s BP Director of Creative, Candid Brandon. Create Program’s will be kicking off in December and finishing up in March 2019 (National Reading Month). We are proud to be expanding, but even more excited that students across the country will be publishing books for their communities to enjoy.
